Home Renovation Program 2024

26. 08. 2024.

The Home Renovation Program has started in Hungary, aiming to reduce energy usage and increase energy-saving capabilities through the modernization and renovation of houses built before December 31, 1990. The program offers a total of 108 billion HUF in funding, which is expected to significantly reduce the energy consumption of approximately 20,000 homes, contributing to sustainability goals.

It is essential to carefully read through the grant application announcement, as there are many conditions to successfully apply for the support, both regarding the applicant and the property.

Which properties are eligible for the support?

Eligible properties are exclusively those that are residential, located in urban, rural, or closed garden areas, and registered as detached houses, semi-detached houses, or row houses. The support covers the insulation of the building’s external envelope, fenestration replacemeent, and modernization of domestic hot water and heating systems.

Before applying for the support, it is necessary to call a certified auditor (with a TÉ license), who will issue the initial energy certificate for the property. The renovation must achieve a 30% primary energy consumption saving, which must also be certified at the end of the project. Starting with certification is useful as it helps determine in advance which works will contribute to energy savings and what costs to expect at the beginning of the project. It may happen that even the amount of the support cannot achieve the necessary energy savings, making the applicant ineligible for the support.

Who can apply for the support?

The support is available to natural persons who are of legal age, have a residence in Hungary, have a tax identification number, are under 75 years of age, are owners or beneficiaries of the property, and do not have public or tax arrears exceeding the gross minimum wage or utility bill arrears older than 60 days. Additionally, the applicant should not be listed in the Central Credit Information System (KHR).
