INTERVIEW WITH KINCSŐ NAGY-BÁNYAI

07. 01. 2025.

Kincső Nagy-Bányai, an eNET intern, stands out not only for her hard work and dedication, but also for her outstanding professional achievements. As a student of Public Governance at the National University of Public Service, she has already achieved significant results: her thesis, which examines the strategic, regulatory and technological challenges of the Hungarian Defence Forces’ communications network, was awarded second place in the Scientific Student Conference (TDK) in the Military and Law Enforcement Sciences and Economics Section. Her results qualified her for the National Scientific Student Conference (OTDK) in spring 2025.

The eNET professional community has not only been an inspiration for her, but also a support for her development. In the following interview, we talk with Kincső about her studies, professional experience, and future plans, as well as how eNET has contributed to her success so far.

Tell us about yourself: what studies are you pursuing, and how do they relate to your work at eNET?

I am studying in the five-year Public Governance program at the National University of Public Service, and I am currently a fourth-year student. The course covers different areas of public administration, including political, legal and economic studies. The university course focuses on the development of planning, strategic, analytical and legal skills, which can be further enhanced through practical experience within eNET.

What motivated you to choose the degree in Public Administration at the National University of Public Service?

I started my studies in 2021, and it was my first choice during the application process. I have been interested in law since I was a child, so it was clear to me that I wanted to further my knowledge in this field during my university years. I believe that the knowledge I have acquired during my studies can be put to good use in practice, as law affects all aspects of life.

When and how did you join the eNET team?

After starting my university studies, one of my short-term goals was to put my theoretical knowledge into practice. As a result, I joined the eNET team in July 2022. When I was looking for a job, I was looking for a balance between work and university studies and for a job that would give me the opportunity to develop in a professional way.

How did eNET and Gergely Kis support your professional development and your work on the TDK project?

Through the projects and studies in eNET, I have acquired most of the skills that are essential for writing a TDK thesis or even a diploma thesis. At the same time, I would like to highlight the role of Gergely Kis, an eNET partner, who was instrumental in getting me to dare to start the TDK thesis.  Apart from his guidance within the organization, he pays special attention to prioritizing the professional development and personal success of employees, which is a huge opportunity for an entry-level professional. He helped me find a topic that suited my motivation and interests and provided me with valuable professional advice. In addition, he connected me with my thesis advisor, Dr. Sándor Magyar, Head of the Department of Military National Security at the NKE HHK NBI, thus providing me with the right professional support.

How did you choose the topic for your thesis? Why did you think it was important to research the development of the communications network of the Hungarian Defence Forces?

From the beginning it was clear to me that I wanted my thesis to deal with the telecommunications sector. During the projects within eNET, it became clear that this area is crucial, as several international and national strategies have made the telecommunications sector a high priority. It was also important for me to be able to contribute to future developments with the results of my research. The changed security environment and the effects of geopolitical pressures justified me to focus my thesis on the Hungarian Defence Forces’ communications network, since, as the saying goes, “knowledge is power”, and therefore the primary objective of the enemy forces is always to block the flow of information.

What challenges did you face while writing this thesis and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge I faced while writing the thesis was that I did not have enough quality time to complete the research tasks initially, so I was not efficient enough. Consequently, I had to adjust my daily routine to meet all my responsibilities.

How did you feel about winning second place in the Military and Law Enforcement Science and Economics section? What does qualification for the OTDK mean to you?

It is a huge motivation for me as it has been proven that hard work always pays off. It has also been a great experience from which I have learned a lot, not only during the writing process, but also during my presentation at the ITDK conference. And to be able to participate in the OTDK event is a real pleasure for me.

How do you see your future in the telecommunications sector or in the field of public governance?

I don’t think the two fields should be completely separated, as illustrated by the fact that, in the last 20 years, many infrastructure developments and support programs have been co-financed by the Hungarian state and the European Union. The telecommunications sector and the public sector are closely linked, as a number of infrastructure developments have been carried out through state and EU funding, which have contributed substantially to the digitalization of public administration and the modernization of the economy, so the integration of developments is beneficial for both sectors.

What goals have you set for your professional development in the coming years?

For my professional development, I aim to acquire a broad range of knowledge. As I am interested in many different subjects, my main goal is to identify the areas that I would like to work on intensively in the future, in order to acquire the deepest possible knowledge in these fields.

Kincső’s story is a great example of how diligence, dedication and professional support can lead to significant results. eNET’s internship program not only gives young talented people the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in different fields, but also helps them to realize their potential and achieve significant success at the start of their careers.
